Girls Night Out – October 23rd

PeggysCove | October 8, 2009 in Uncategorized | Comments (2)

From the Facebook Group:

Where else can you go and for $15 get a glass of wine, buffet table full of hors d’oeurves, a fashion show, entertainment, and full-on yak time with up to 250 other women! The energy is high, and the decibels higher when this group gets together to enjoy an evening with friends and raise funds for various community projects.girls night

There will be door prizes and draws, a silent auction, and a decadent dessert bar featuring cheesecakes with your choice of toppings. Proceeds from the dessert bar will go to the local food bank.

This event is a fundraiser for community projects and the organizers are very proud to have donated more than 90% of the revenue each year to various community projects. In 8 years this has amounted to nearly $35,000.00.

Over the years, funds have been given to the Hanging Basket Project, Community Banners, Hubbards Barn, Bishops Park, Through the Years Day Care, Mill Cove Beach, Hubbards Cove Waterfront Development, Hubbards Cove Days, Hubbards & Area Emergency Response Team, Hubbards Food Bank, Fire Department, Lions Club, Parade, and Sailing School. Each of the donations has been made for a specific purpose (eg. flowers, benches, garbage bins, fireworks, transfer switch, jaws of life pneumatic hoses etc.) and never to an organization’s general revenue. Where possible, a small (donated) plaque is affixed to the item indicating that it was provided by Girls Night Out.

TICKETS are available at LOLA’S LANDING and the TRELLIS CAFE in HUBBARDS, and at DIANNE’S BOUTIQUE in TANTALLON.

More Great Feedback from the Photo Tour!

PeggysCove | September 30, 2009 in Uncategorized | Comments (6)

Kimberly, one of the fantastic bloggers we had out on the photo tour, posted today about her time around the bay.kimberlytour

It’s been a whirlwind past few weeks at work and home. And the weekends have been no exception. Recently, I was invited to join some local bloggers and social media types on a day tour and overnight stay in the Peggy’s Cove Area. It was an excellent idea offered up by Colour in association with the tourism association for the region.

A write up by Kimberly about the tour is on the Halifax Magazine blog today, so please check it out!

Thanks again to all our awesome bloggers and contest winners for coming out!

Blog Posts and Photos from the Tour!

PeggysCove | September 29, 2009 in Uncategorized | Comments (6)

We’re so thrilled about the great feedback from our photo tour this weekend. What photo tour, you ask? Well, we took some bloggers and Facebook contest winners out for a trip around the Peggy’s Cove Area on Sunday, September 20th to give them a taste of what’s available so close to home. Essentially, we wanted to show them that’s there’s so much to do, so close, so “Why Not Now?” The tour included taking them to several scenic spots to take photos, a boat tour around the bay, wine tasting, and dinner.

A few of the bloggers we had out on the tour were gracious enough to write about their experiences.

The first is from the Things to do for Two blog.Bayswater Beach

I don’t know if I’ve been living under a rock (or maybe just a pile of school work) but I had never heard of a photo tour before. I had heard of photos and also tours, but not the two combined. Photo tours are now my new favourite thing because I get to explore the outdoors, experiment with photography, and discover the hidden treasures of our province all for a very low price.

The second post comes from the wonderful With Bite food blog.

withbiteBeaches, hiking trails, award-winning wines and incredible food make for quite the experience when playing the tourist in Nova Scotia. The fact of the matter is though, that these experiences can all be had within an hour’s drive of the city. While it’s fine to plan for excursions such as these in advance, why not take a walk on the wild side and experience Nova Scotia when the mood strikes. The name of the tour was “Why Not Now?”, and I can’t think of a good reason “Why Not.”

We’ve also had some amazing photos added to the Flickr pool!

And there’s still lots more to come. Stay tuned!
